The Birddogs are scheduled to perform from 5 to 6 p.m. at Roxbury Bandshell Sept. 9 as part of the Bandshell’s free summer concert series sponsored by AmeriServ.
“The Birddogs performed last year to a huge crowd,” said Mary Borkow, Roxbury Bandshell Preservation Alliance president. “They were such a hit that I asked them to return this year, which they so willingly accepted. We are anxious to hear their wonderful selections of all types of music that will bring enjoyment to all ages of our audience. We are very fortunate to have them back again.”
Following The Birddogs’s performance, an open mic will be held from 6 to 7 p.m.
“For the very first time, we will host an open mic,” Borkow said. “We will devote an hour to this unique event. It is an opportunity for our community to share their talents on Johnstown’s historic Roxbury Bandshell.”
Borkow added that the open mic is preferably for musical performances, “but it can vary accordingly.”
Those who wish to participate will need to sign up on-site the day of the concert. Slots will be given on a first come, first served basis.
VOMA will be providing food for purchase. All proceeds benefit that organization, as well as the Roxbury Bandshell Preservation Alliance.
The concert is free, but donations will be accepted. All donations received during the free summer concerts will help to maintain and enhance the Bandshell as both a performing arts venue and a historic monument.
Please note that concerts may be cancelled due to inclement weather. If a cancellation is in order, organizers will fly a red flag at the Roxbury Bandshell, as well as update the website accordingly.

Roxbury Bandshell is located at 1430 Franklin Street in Johnstown.
“Please bring your lawn chair or blanket and enjoy one of the few remaining AmeriServ free concerts of 2018,” Borkow said.
