The 31st Annual Forest Hills Labor Day Festival will take place Aug. 31 through Sept. 2.

The festival is free and open to the public. It will be held rain or shine at Berwind Wayside Park in Saint Michael. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday.

During all three days of the festival, members of Adams Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 2 will host an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet beginning at 7 a.m. in the fire station’s social hall.

The fire company has been hosting the Forest Hills Festival since 2009, said Chief Paul Kundrod.

“The fire department does the planning, the set-up and the coordination of vendors and exhibits, and plans the entertainment and fireworks show,” Kundrod said.

All proceeds from the festival benefit both Berwind Wayside Park and the fire company.

“We look to improve the park on an on-going basis and add items we see that enhance the park's viability,” Kundrod said. “We also use proceeds for the operations of our department. This event is one of our major fundraisers that allows us to keep up with modern life-saving equipment for our citizens in providing the best possible emergency response.”

Once again this year, attendees will find the festival grounds full of food and craft vendors.

“The number of crafters and food booths continue to grow,” Kundrod said, “and requests for spaces continue to climb. We offer a wide variety of exhibits and crafts and do not duplicate any craft item or food items. We've had crafters here for all 31 years in a row.”

Kundrod added that there will be “no shortage” of live entertainment.

“We offer music for all ages to enjoy,” he said.

This year’s performers include: 53 South; Russell Wilburn; Tombstone; Hard Rock, KoKo, and Joe; Three of Hearts; Forest Hills Community Band; Johnstown Area Button Box Club; and Rosie and the Jammers.

Bingo, courtesy of the fire company’s Ladies Auxiliary, will be held in the social hall.

“The Ladies Auxiliary would like to offer festival-goers the chance to come inside to play bingo inside the air-conditioned hall for a few hours and beat the heat of the weekend,” Kundrod said.

Fireworks will begin at 9 p.m. Sunday. The fireworks show will be presented by Starfire of Northern Cambria.

“Many have told us this is the best show in Cambria County, and by the size of attendees, we believe that,” Kundrod said. “It is a fabulous show.”

“The Berwind Wayside Park is a great venue for this event,” Kundrod said. “There is plenty of room for our visitors and guests. We offer modern restroom facilities, plenty of parking and lots of room for everyone to enjoy themselves.”
