HighStrung performing at Coffee House Series

Community Arts Center of Cambria County’s (CACCC) Coffee House Series commenced May 10 with a performance by Meat and Potatoes. Next up on the schedule: HighStrung, formerly known as Averyin.

“HighStrung is a very personable and passionate group that gives you such an appreciation for the tradition of Gaelic folk music,” said Angela Godin, CACCC executive director. “Through their unique storytelling of song and traditional details of their heritage, audience members become fully engrossed in the experience.”

HighStrung consists of Smitty and Deese, two local musicians who have participated in CACCC’s revived Coffee House Series over the past few years.

Their performance is scheduled to take place beginning at 7 p.m. June 14 inside the non-profit organization’s Goldhaber-Fend Fine Arts Center gallery, located at 1217 Menoher Boulevard in Johnstown’s Westmont neighborhood.

All coffee houses in this Series are free and open to the public, but donations are encouraged.

CACCC’s Coffee House Series was revived four years ago and, due to its increasing popularity, Angela Godin and her staff decided to get a bit creative this year by adding a “Brew House Night” to the season schedule.

During “Brew House Night,” Stone Bridge Brewing Company of Johnstown will sell beer alongside the usual assortment of coffees, teas and pastries that can be purchased during regular coffee houses. “Brew House Night” is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 20 and will feature a performance by Midnight Acoustic.

The remaining coffee house schedule for this summer is: Brad Ladik on July 26; Rodney Eatman on Aug. 23 and The SharpTones on Oct. 25. All coffee houses are to begin at 7 p.m.

“As a ‘community’ arts center, it is important that we offer things free to our members, patrons, and friends,” Godin said. “Between the Coffee House Series, the new ‘Brew House Night,’ and the annual Concert-on-the-Green summer concert series, we are presenting quality free music for six months of the year. These special events are dear to our hearts.”
