20th anniversary of Miners’ Memorial Day weekend
The event is held every Father’s Day weekend, in honor of all miners who toiled in the coal mines of our country. June 13, 6 to 10 p.m. on Graham Avenue, the location of all the events, is “Any Truck and any ATV Show n Shine Extravaganza.” From 7 to 10 p.m., a street dance with DJ 28th and Schmick providing the music. June 14, the group Circle of Friends will hold a bingo at the Windber Community Building. Friday’s festivities include a dance at the Gazebo near Graham Avenue, 5:30 to 7 p.m. with music by “Button Box.” Following “Button Box”, at 8 p.m. a street dance will be held featuring live music by “Kindred Fury.” On Friday, at dusk, “Celestial Fire” will take the stage at 15th Street. June 15 at 10:30 a.m. opening ceremonies are scheduled at the tent near the old fire hall on Graham and 15th Street. The annual parade begins at 11 a.m. Dr. Jerry Gray is grand marshal. At 1 p.m. live music by “Krazy Kat Daddies” will take to the street. 4:30 p.m. “Orange Fire” will play followed at 8 p.m. by “Characters.” At 5 p.m. the 13 annual bike show will fill the street. There will be cash awards for fir1st place and runner-up, Classes A- G. A best paint award will be presented to the bike with the best overall paint job, regardless of class entered. Fireworks will be at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, with the rain date Sunday night. Sunday is the ECHF annual Father’s Day Car Show and Cruise-In 12 to 5 p.m. There will 22 “fun awards” to be presented at 4 p.m. Judging will be by racing stars from local speedways. At 2 p.m. Sunday, the Duck Race will start to benefit the Windber Shaffer Museum. The museum will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. At 3 p.m. on Sunday, the basket party drawing will take place at the old fire hall on 15th Street. There will be a food court open at the parking lot at the Windber Community Building 6 to 11 p.m. on Thursday, 5:30 to 11 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Crafters will have their booths open 10 a.m. to dusk Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
